Six or so months before we landed in Athens (and long resistant to chain restaurants) we needed somewhere to eat and debrief with our agent after a frustrating day of looking at houses. I expected too much noise, iffy service and an over-salted, unimaginative selection from which to choose my meatless meal. I'll not belabor my character flaws, but will say that we continue to think of Carrabba's as an excellent option for eating in or out: the service has never been less than attentive, the fish, pasta and vegetables are consistently flavorful and well prepared, and while always crowded, noisiness has never been an issue, nor does a full house seem to translate into long waits. I love that they'll substitute my favorite things for the printed side orders, and if we do take out, the portions are easily as generous as what we get in house. I'm told (over and over) that Athens has a reputation for myriad and excellent small eateries, and we'll be trying them all, but how nice is it to find good in big places?!

My waiter took my food and drink order. But was back a few minutes later to ask what I wanted to drink. Then back a 3rd time to verify my 3 toppings on our $10 Wednesday pizza special.

Athens is a remarkable place in many ways, relative to its environs, but in one sense it is a completely typical southern town: it is gastronomically challenged. Most of the "better" restaurants serve very boring, workaday food-- the ONLY food southerners will eat-- making Carrabba's, in my experience, the best restaurant in town. What these people can do with a cut of meat must be experienced to be believed. I urge you to try the Chicken Bryan. It's a chain, yes, but it's a chain obviously owned by passionate culinary artists.

It was approximately 5pm this past Wednesday. We were the only ones out there.

I and my 4 legged, smushed nose, baby sat on the patio. The way the patio is positioned - behind some large well manicured bushes, & away from the road, give a little more to look at & they muffled to traffic.

Such a great experience! We had a party of three, and we were seated immediately by a very nice hostess. Our waitress was quick and thorough, and even had recommendations if we had questions; very knowledgeable about the meals we were looking at. She was polite and smiled the whole time. The atmosphere was quiet and felt unique with the open kitchen. Smooth jazz was playing in the background and old pictures of the restaurant's family filled the walls. Highly recommend coming here for sure!

Skip ahead - we were missing the Italian sausage. I would have asked to get some cooked on the side but when he came back I needed a box.

Best Italian. Pricey, upscale but in a shopping center that is discount stores. Nice atmosphere inside.
