I'd like to thank the team at CJ and Leathers for finding my small family and I a home we truly love. The leasing process went very smoothly, and the fact that they allowed us to move in an entire month early made it all that much better. We hope to rent the same house next year through this great company. Keep up the good work!
We found a beautiful four bed/four bath home that we had every intention of renting. My prospective roommates and I all submitted our applications fully and scheduled a showing on a tuesday. The landlord cancelled on us and rescheduled for that Friday and in that time showed another group the house and they got to sign the lease. The landlord did not let anyone know she had cancelled on the group that had priority. Absolutely unacceptable, and never going through this company to look at houses again.
Okay google, let me vent. Chastain Jenkins & Leathers is the worst rental company I have ever rented from in Athens. I've lived here for 10 years and I was a student for five years, so believe me when I say I've run the gamut of terrible landlords in this town. Yet, CJ&L takes the cake. We were told to request all maintenance through the property owner, who would respond saying "I'll come by tomorrow" and never show up. On multiple occasions we would submit maintenance requests on their website after no response from the property owner, only to return to the website the next week to find them marked as "completed" when nothing was done. We call to tell them our property owner is not performing maintenance and they say they'll talk to him. Yet...nothing changes. Turns out our property owner is the husband of one of the women who runs CJL, so of course nothing changes, because nepotism. These were not minor maintenance requests we were making. Water damage from an attic leak destroyed the laminate flooring in our living room over the course of THREE MONTHS. THREE MONTHS of texting photos of the increasing water damage that spread throughout our entire living room. Finally, and only because I SAW the property owner on our street and had to LEAD HIM INTO OUR HOUSE to come look at the floor, did he address the extensive damage. Did he fix the problem promptly and apologetically? Oh boy. That week, he did have workers come tear out the existing flooring. Everything in the living room was removed and placed in our second bedroom, which became unusable as we waited for new flooring to be put in. This was October of 2016. A month passes and we still have no floor. As you may know, the deadline to renew your lease is December 31. Well, 3 months pass and December 31 rolls around, and we still have no floor (in addition: leaks on both sides of kitchen sink, bedroom ceiling leaks when it rains...that leak was still there when we moved out). Obviously, we do not renew the lease. THE. VERY. NEXT. WEEK. Workers come and put in a shiny new floor, without calling in advance. We get home from work, and it's there. We are shocked. THE. VERY. NEXT. DAY. I'm talking literally, not figuratively. The very next day they show the house to prospective tenants for next year, who see this shiny new floor and sign the lease. They could not have made it more obvious that they are not interested AT ALL of the well-being of their tenants. Their idea of "property management" is to push out tenants as quickly as possible so they can profit off another year of security deposits. Do not give this company your money.
This company is very slow to send out people to repair items broken in the home. The website where they send you in unreliable. I've been without an AC unit for 4 days, and the garage door is still broken after 2 months. They give the maint. people keys that don't work to my residence, and the office staff is rude. It was a good company, but something has changed since spring of 2017, it's not the same. Very Unhappy and so in the landlord.
CJ&L is a great rental company. Devin kicks absolute butt at her job and I've personally recommended her to friends. She always responded quickly to any questions or issues I had and often acted as the middle man between me and my roommates and the owner of the house, which, admittedly, was likely not a comfortable place to be at times. Devin and CJ&L are professional, courteous, and always had my maintenance requests done quickly and efficiently.
