Nothing terrible about this place. The outside is a little scary (kinda dark & surrounded by construction & crews) and the room did have a bit of an odor to it when we first arrived, but once we turned the A/C on it went away. Probably wouldn't have stayed here alone because of the sketchy parking lot; however, the room was clean - clean sheets, clean bathroom, shower/sink/toilet - which is what really matters the most to me. I didn't see any staff other than the guy at the front who checked me in, but he was really friendly & helpful. Like I said, it is worth the price. If I had to return to Athens, I would probably stay here again.
Not your typical Wingate by Wyndham. If sleep is a priority, I'd urge you to find a room elsewhere. Bathrooms are dated and dirty. Hair on sheets in bed. Showers and tub were not cleaned and moldy. Walls are paper thin and mornings are very loud. You must be up by 7:30am or you will not get any sleep past then due to contact noise. Housekeeping vacuums hallways very early and the vacuum cleaner is extremely loud. Regardless of whether or not your "do not disturb" sign is on your room door, housekeeping will begin beating on your door at 8am. Late checkouts are also not permitted and when I called to request one, the staff member at the front desk and the manager were not flexible, even with an extra 30 minutes and instead responded with, "you late checking out after 11, I charge you additional day." Lots of sketchy characters in parking lot and coming in and out of hotel during the evening. I'd pay an extra $20 and stay at a decent place closer to downtown.
This place is utterly disgusting. The sheets weren't changed since i found crumbs and hair in my bed before using it. The shower hadn't been cleaned either which also had hair left in it. Also, upon trying to go to bed on our last night here, i had a flea jump from the bed to me. This is unacceptable. And this place needs an up to date inspection. Also, don't expect the vending machines to work either.
The location is optimal for the price point. The rooms have been remodeled although there were a few cosmetic issues (ie holes that needed patched, bad caulking job in the shower, some weird bad marble tile laid on top of where a column or pillar used to be...) The room was clean except for the bedside lamp that had a mound of dust on it and when I picked up the alarm clock there was water under it (?) Not really sure where that came from since we didn't have a drink on the nightstand. The breakfast was nice and clean and offering the typical choices eggs, yogurt, fruit, nuts, waffles, bacon, cereals etc. The reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 3 is the staff. Everyone was really friendly and most helpful. Especially the check in clerk who had to deal with everyone during and hour and a half long power outage the first night of our stay.
The rooms were nice, big, and comfortable. The staff was nice and the breakfast provided was varied and tasty. The only negative was a shower handle that needed a little maintenance due to it sliding off, but it performed it's function.
